Dr. Urs R. Haltinner, a native Swiss, has been a Professor of Career and Technical Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stout since 1999. He served as a Professor and Program Director of the B.S. in Marketing and Business Education and currently is the Program Director for the Doctorate in Career and Technical Education (http://www.uwstout.edu/programs/cte/).
Prior to UW-Stout he worked in the private sector as dairy farmer, waiter, agriculture and small industrial equipment salesperson and PK-12 marketing education teacher. He will tell you that “The human does not want to be sold yet wants to buy and the learner does not want to be taught yet craves to learn!”
His current passion revolves around understanding the experience working in the age of hyper communications. His research interests include futures of work, high impact work-based learning, knowledge and skills life-cycles; its implication on formal education systems, and driving and opposing forces impacting innovation and invention.
At UW-Stout he has taught across a wide range of education foundations and CTE subject area pedagogy courses. He currently teaches a broad range of courses within the Masters and Doctoral Career and Technical Education programs. Additionally, he is actively engaged in program development, advancing instructional delivery, and meeting the needs and wants of stakeholders.
He served on The Governor’s Taskforce for Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Standards, serves on the ETS Marketing Education Praxis II Test Advisory Board, has been a member and standards writer for Wisconsin CTE Technical Standards since 1990, serves as a conference session proposal reviewer for the Association of Career and Technical Association, peer reviewer for the International Society for Business Journal and MountainRise, (the International Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning).
Urs’ formal academic journey includes his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Minneapolis, MN (Work and Human Resource Education); Master of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI (Vocational and Adult Education); Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI (Marketing Education, Minor: Business Administration); and his Associate of Applied Science from North Central Technical College, Wausau, WI (Marketing).
